What are Lip Fillers?

Lip fillers are made with hyaluronic acid (HA) which is a naturally occurring compound in the body that helps maintain skin hydration and volume. Lip fillers are used to add volume to the lip, increase definition, and treat creases and wrinkles around the mouth.

Our lip filler treatment is tailored to meet your individual goals, whether you’re looking for subtle enhancement or a more noticeable change. We will assess your facial structure and recommend the best treatment that:

– Increases volume & definition
– Rejuvenates and contours
– Balances & hydrates

The Lip Filler Treatment Process

Discover the lip filler treatment process at Lumineux Aesthetics, a Southampton-based, award-winning injectables clinic.

Our lip filler treatment process always starts with a thorough consultation.

We’ll first conduct a facial assessment and consultation, in which our expert aesthetic practitioners will assess your face. We will take photos of the lips and plan the injection sites on the lips.

We will thoroughly clean the injection sites on the lips, killing any bacteria to avoid infection.

If needed we can then use cream to help numb the pain of the injection.

The lip filler injections are quick and simple. There are many different techniques for lip enhancement (cannula and needle) that may be used to achieve your desired results. Your expert practitioner will choose the best for your individual case.

We are able to use lip fillers to not only enhance the size of the lip but to also create better lip symmetry, definition and improve the overall shape of the lips.

After injecting we will massage the lips to ensure the even distribution of the filler. Once complete, we’ll advise you on aftercare instructions to ensure the best possible results.

This will include a recommendation that you avoid touching your lips for at least 6 hours after treatment and that you avoid makeup, alcohol, exercise, aspirin, and ibuprofen for at least 24 hours after treatment.

Lip Filler Treatment FAQs

Your suitability for lip fillers depends on your goals, health, and the natural anatomy of your lips. During a personalised consultation, we’ll discuss your aesthetic goals, review any health concerns, and assess your lip shape. Whether you’re new to fillers or experienced, we’ll ensure the procedure aligns with your expectations and lifestyle. The best results enhance your natural beauty while keeping your unique features.

Lip fillers usually last 6 to 12 months, depending on the type of filler, your metabolism, and how active your lips are. Regular touch-ups can help maintain your results. Lifestyle factors like sun exposure and smoking can also influence longevity.

Yes, when performed by a qualified professional practitioner, lip fillers are safe. We only use FDA-approved fillers and follow strict safety procedures. While minor side effects like swelling may occur, they are temporary. At Lumineux Aesthetics, your safety is our top priority, from consultation to aftercare.

Most of our clients find the pain experienced with the lip filler to be very tolerable. We use numbing cream and gentle techniques to minimise discomfort. You may feel a slight pinch, and post-procedure tenderness usually subsides within a few days. At Lumineux Aesthetics your comfort and safety is our priority.

The amount of lip filler depends on your goals and natural lip anatomy. Usually, 0.5 to 1 ml is used for a subtle natural looking enhancement. We tailor the amount to your desired outcome, ensuring a natural result. A personalised consultation will help determine the best approach for you.

Depending on your aesthetic goals and how your body metabolises the filler, we would recommend touch-ups every 6 to 9 months to help maintain results.

In total lip fillers generally last 6 to 12 months. We’ll tailor a plan that fits your individual needs during your consultation.

Lip fillers are a gel-like material primarily made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance that adds volume and hydration. HA is biodegradable, so the effects are not permanent and require maintenance.

Swelling is typically the greatest within the first 24-48 hours and subsides significantly by day three. Most swelling goes away completely within 1 to 2 weeks. Applying a cold compress and avoiding strenuous activities can help reduce swelling faster.

To reduce swelling, apply cold compresses, drink lots of water, avoid heat and strenuous activities, keep your head elevated while sleeping, and avoid touching your lips. Swelling typically subsides within a few days.

Yes, you can eat after lip fillers, but it’s best to wait about an hour to let the numbing cream wear off. Start with soft foods to avoid putting pressure on your lips.

For the first 24 hours, avoid hot and spicy foods that could increase swelling. Also, avoid hard or crunchy foods that might disrupt the filler. Staying hydrated is also important, and gentle eating will make sure your lips heal comfortably and naturally.

It’s recommended to avoid lip fillers during pregnancy due to a lack of research on safety and the potential risks involved.

Hormonal changes during pregnancy can affect the results and may cause excessive swelling. It’s best to wait until after pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Ideally, you should avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours after lip fillers. Alcohol can increase swelling and bruising and may dehydrate you, slowing down the healing process. After 24 hours, you can resume drinking in moderation.

Lip fillers are safe when administered by a qualified professional using high-quality products. While temporary side effects like swelling are common, permanent damage is rare. Overuse or unqualified providers can increase risks, so it’s important to choose an expert practitioner.
