PRP (Liquid Gold) Treatment

PRP can be used for a range of skin and hair concerns. At Lumineux Aesthetics, we use it to improve skin quality, fine lines, texture and elasticity, as well as the appearance of acne scarring and stretch marks. It can also be used on areas such as the under eyes, neck and hands.

PRP can also be injected into the scalp to support people experiencing certain types of hair thinning or hair loss. The results you can expect will depend on the concern being treated, so we’ll assess whether PRP is suitable for you during consultation.

PRP can be suitable for many people looking to improve skin quality, scarring or certain types of hair thinning, but it isn’t appropriate for everyone. Certain blood disorders, active infections and other medical conditions may affect whether you can have treatment.

We’ll review your medical history, medicines and supplements during consultation before recommending PRP. You should also tell us if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding or have any concerns about having your blood taken.

PRP uses plasma prepared from your own blood, which means there’s a low risk of an allergic reaction to the injected material. However, it is still an injectable procedure and isn’t completely risk-free.

Temporary redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness or soreness can occur around the blood-draw and injection sites. Infection and other complications are less common. We’ll assess your suitability before treatment and explain the potential risks and aftercare during your consultation.

You may feel some brief discomfort when your blood is taken and when the PRP is injected. We apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area beforehand to make the procedure more comfortable. You may still notice some pressure, pinching or a mild stinging sensation during the injections.

We typically recommend an initial course of three PRP sessions, usually spaced around four to six weeks apart. This gives your skin or scalp time to respond between treatments.

The number of sessions you need will depend on what we’re treating and how you respond, so we’ll recommend a treatment plan based on your skin, hair and individual goals.

A PRP treatment usually takes around 30 to 60 minutes. After the treatment area has been cleansed and numbed, we’ll take a small sample of your blood and place it in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma.

The PRP is then injected into the agreed treatment areas. You may feel some brief pressure, pinching or tingling during the injections, but topical numbing cream is used to make treatment more comfortable.

PRP usually involves minimal downtime. You may experience temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising or small injection marks after treatment, which generally begin to settle over the following few days.

Many people can return to their normal routine soon afterwards. However, you should follow the aftercare advice provided and avoid strenuous exercise, excessive heat and anything else your practitioner advises while the area settles.

PRP can be used to support hair growth in some people experiencing hair thinning or hair loss. The platelet-rich plasma is injected into the scalp, where its growth factors are used to support activity around the hair follicles.

Research suggests PRP can improve hair density in some types of hair loss, but results vary and it won’t be suitable for every cause of thinning. We’ll assess your hair loss and discuss whether PRP is an appropriate treatment for you before starting a course.

Yes. PRP can be used around the under-eye area to improve skin quality, texture and elasticity. Because the treatment uses platelet-rich plasma prepared from your own blood, it doesn’t add volume in the same way as a dermal filler.

Under-eye concerns can have several different causes, so we’ll assess whether PRP is suitable for what you’d like to improve during your consultation.

How long PRP results last varies depending on the area being treated, your individual response and the concern we’re treating. Following an initial course, results may last for several months, with some patients experiencing improvements for up to 18 months.

PRP doesn’t stop the natural ageing process or the progression of every type of hair loss, so maintenance treatment may be recommended depending on your results and goals.
