Polynucleotides are biopolymers made up of long chains of nucleotides, the building blocks of DNA and RNA. Their value in aesthetics is as biostimulators: once injected, they encourage the skin to regenerate from within rather than simply adding volume.

Polynucleotides work as an injectable skin conditioning treatment, supporting collagen production, improving hydration, and enhancing elasticity. Over a course of treatments this can soften fine lines and wrinkles, leaving skin looking thicker, brighter, and healthier.

They may also improve the appearance of scarring, sun damage, photoageing, hyperpigmentation, and stretch marks. Polynucleotides are particularly well suited to delicate areas where fillers are less appropriate, including under the eyes and around the mouth.

Polynucleotides are derived from fish DNA, usually trout or salmon, which is filtered, ultra-purified, and sterilised during manufacture. This source is used because its structure closely resembles human DNA.

Polynucleotides are well tolerated and have a good safety profile when administered by a trained practitioner. As with any injectable, mild redness, swelling, or tenderness at the injection sites is possible and usually short-lived.

Because they are derived from fish, they are not suitable for vegetarians or vegans.

Polynucleotides are well tolerated but not suitable for everyone. The treatment should be avoided if you have a circulatory disorder, active dermatitis, epilepsy, diabetes, active herpes, or an autoimmune condition, and it is not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
